Neelam Mathews JAR June 27 2017 Escalating demand in  Singapore  for cheap, high-tech commercial  drones has prompted authorities in the city-state to develop  an unmanned aerial system (UAS) traffic management (UTM)  system. A joint research centre called the Air Traffic Management  Research Institute (ATMRI), led by Nanyang Technological  University (NTU) and the Civil Aviation Authority of  Singapore (CAAS), is working on a four-year project called Traffic Management  of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TM-UAS). Neelam Mathews Singapore signs up for space-based ADS-B data  Feb 24 2016  Aireon is to supply space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B)  data for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore  (CAAS) under a deal signed on on 18  February during the  Singapore  Airshow. The CAAS signed a 12-year contract to purchase the service,  beginning in 2018.  This is the first data services agreement for the Aireon service in the  Asia-Pacific region. In order to improve air traffic controller situational awareness, Aireon will provide data  for the entire  Singapore  Flight Information Region (FIR) by supplementing  existing surveillance sensors used by the CAAS. Over the next two years, CAAS will establish the necessary infrastructure to  integrate the Aireon service with legacy systems. Regulatory/Legislative Aviation Daily Oct 25 , 2010 , p. 11 Neelam Mathews Following an air crash in Mangalore in May, India has put the creation of an autonomous Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on a fast track to ensure aviation safety, security and effective regulation of air transport in the country. The CAA will have more flexibility and autonomy than the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on financial and administrative matters, and will bring about even more safety, Nasim Zaidi of the DGCA said. Zaidi said the time frame for the formation of the CAA is 18-24 months. The CEO of the authority will also serve as the chairman, once the new authority is cleared by parliament. News Aviation Daily Feb 01 , 2010 , p. 19 Neelam Mathews Following a major restructuring of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore last year, CAAS on Friday unveiled plans to drive the development and growth of the aviation industry in Singapore. CAAS introduced an Aviation Development Fund (ADF) with a budget of $100 million to fund incentive aviation-related programs in the next five years. The ADF programs will also support broader industry-level initiatives to raise effectiveness and competitiveness through government-industry partnerships. Two ADF programs of $25 million each – the Aviation Partnership Program and the Aviation Innovation Program – will be launched in April to assist companies in developing new capabilities and encourage innovation. Others that could be rolled out subsequently would support worker development.
