(Photo: Neelam Mathews) July 24, 2014, 11:12 AM India’s loss-making Jet Airways and its new 24-percent owner Etihad Airways are formulating plans for restructuring debt and fleet rationalization for enhancing a full-service branding. Jet, reporting $689 million in declared losses last year, expects to show profits by 2017, founder and chairman Naresh Goyal said at a July 23 press conference in New Delhi. A slowed economy, infrastructure constraints, and rupee depreciation have in the past years resulted in massive losses for airlines in India. Cathay is also an alliance partner in the One World alliance. Starting Jan 31,Air New Zealand joins Asia Miles in the Airlines category. From this date, members will be able to earn Asia Miles on Air New Zealand flights between Auckland and Hong Kong – and start redeeming miles for award tickets later in the first quarter of 2013 (exact date to be announced). Neelam Mathews July 31, 2012 At a recent meeting during the second visit this year of DG IATA Tony Tyler, Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal told Aerospace Diary when queried, that the carrier was in talks with an international alliance. When queried when the announcement would be made, Goyal dismissed it with a: "We will announce it...." With Jet not permitted to talk to Star Alliance following the Air India fiasco, OneWorld still holding its umbilical cord with shamed (by IATA) Kingfisher, this leaves only SkyTeam. There has been another school of thought that is convinced Jet will not join an alliance easily as it tends to make partnerships with airlines the world over to suit its routes and ambitions.
