Neelam Mathews Feb 24, 2013   Before the rumor mill goes amuck, we at AerospaceDiary learn from a pretty reliable source that the new CEO of AirAsia India (I like the sound of that!) will not be from the airline industry. Again, we cannot confirm this and just reporting a strong tailwind. However, we do know from past history of the airline, there were few airline-associated top guys, starting with founder,Tony Fernandes, who refers to himself as a ‘dreamer’ in his twitter profile, while Azran, the CEO of AirAsia X calls himself a “madhatter running AirAsiaX, or sometimes just running aimlessly. Outdoor freak.or sometimes just freaking out randomly. On a plane!” Azran in Paris It is becoming increasingly clear the new guy will also be out of the aviation space, bringing in fresh ideas while the Tatas strive tirelessly with the regulator making it possible for Tony's dream to become a reality.

Air Asia confirmed another 100 Airbus A320 which further acknowledges its dominance in Asia to have a record 475 narrow bodies on order with Airbus. This order is part of the AirAsia Group’s regional strategy to continue placing the airline ahead of competition regionally with its extensive growth through new routes and added frequencies. The 100 Airbus A320s ordered consist of 36 A320s with the Current Engine Option (CEO) and 64 A320s with the New Engine Option (NEO)  to accelerate its growth in its core markets Malaysia, Thailand & Indonesia followed by its new markets Japan and the Philippines. Posted by- Neelam Mathews July 12, 2011 Starting Oct 24, Malaysian based long haul AirAsia X, is starting   flights from Kuala Lumpur to Gatwick Airport. The new move from Stansted is set to further increase passenger traffic from SouthEast Asia to London and Europe with six flights weekly to Gatwick Airport by mid December. AirAsia X’s decision to switch from Stansted to Gatwick Airport was to maximise commercial opportunities at Gatwick, to ultimately drive increased traffic flow between UK and Malaysia, and also the various key feeder markets within AirAsia’s network in Asia Pacific which the airline has proven at Stansted airport. The route will be serviced by AirAsia X’s Airbus A340-300, which has 327 seats including 18 Premium Fly Flat bed seats.  AirAsia X’s Premium Fly Flat beds are standard business class specifications of 20” width, 60” pitch and stretches out to 77” in full recline position.
