Neelam Mathews JAR June 27 2017 Escalating demand in  Singapore  for cheap, high-tech commercial  drones has prompted authorities in the city-state to develop  an unmanned aerial system (UAS) traffic management (UTM)  system. A joint research centre called the Air Traffic Management  Research Institute (ATMRI), led by Nanyang Technological  University (NTU) and the Civil Aviation Authority of  Singapore (CAAS), is working on a four-year project called Traffic Management  of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TM-UAS). Neelam Mathews   IHS Jane's Airport Review Mar 12, 2015 The Aireon joint venture for space-based global air traffic surveillance has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on the potential deployment of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) services in Indian airspace. The MoU states that AAI will work with Aireon to develop applicable regulations, standards, and procedures for ADS-B; identify specific requirements for AAI's use of space-based ADS-B surveillance; and demonstrate how the use of ADS-B can improve aviation operations in Indian airspace. The Indian Space Research Organisation will assist the AAI in examining the feasibility of the Aireon solution. Neelam Mathews  - IHS Jane's Airport Review 17 July 2014 ATC  The incoming BJP government led by Narendra Modi must surmount a number of aviation obstacles Even as the Indian Parliament prepares to clear the creation of an independent Civil Aviation Authority to replace the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the corporatisation of Air Navigation Services (ANS) is top on the list of the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 100-day agenda. Other immediate plans include establishing low-cost airports. Some aviation insiders harbour serious concerns about ANS corporatisation. Subit Kobiraj, president of the CNS [Communication, Navigation and Surveillance] Officers Guild, described "grey areas" in the implementation plan - and  IHS Jane's  has seen a letter dated 4 July, addressed to the AAI Member ANS from Shamsher Singh, general secretary of the ANS Guild. ....read more on Janes Airprots Review

Neelam Mathews Sept 28, 2012 This morning, a Sita Air  operated  Dornier Fairchild twin engine turboprop,  with Garrett TPE331-10T/-5A engine, crashed on the banks of Manohara in the Bhakatpur district river killing 19 including 16 passengers. Local papers have reported the aircraft crashed within two minutes after the ATC gave clearance for take off from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. The reason for the crash is not known. It is being speculated , a bird hit could have been the cause. The aircraft was on its way to Lukla, a tourist destination in the lap of Mt.Everest. Aviation accidents are not a rarity in Nepal. In May, an Agni Air Dornier had also crashed.  Sita Air started operations in 2003 with four Dorniers.
