GTF Engine Pains Subside in IndiGo A320neos

Neelam Mathews Oct 24, 2017 AIN (US) Indian low-fare airline IndiGo, the first A320neo operator in Asia, has reduced its aircraft on ground (AOG) to two machines following operational disruptions involving the airplanes’ Pratt & Whitney PW11000G geared turbofans since early last year. In India, the number of airframes awaiting spare engines has fallen from 15 to three—two with IndiGo and one with GoAir. With 430 A320neos on order, IndiGo has yet to make a decision on the engine choice for a second tranche of 280 airplanes. However, with increases in fuel prices and the competitive environment in India, IndiGo might choose to operate the Pratt-powered airplanes for a longer period than its usual limit of six years, said IndiGo president Aditya Ghosh during a July conference call to discuss quarterly earnings. Ghosh cited a 15-percent lower fuel burn and “a much lower risk of technological obsolescence” in the PW1100G as factors in his d...

Big Indian Navy Requirement for Helicopters Revealed

by  Neelam Mathews  -  October 12, 2017, 10:57 AM The Indian Navy has revealed an intention to procure approximately 111 Naval Utility Helicopters ( NUH ) and 123 Naval Multi-role Helicopters ( MRH ). The responses to two requests for information ( RFI ) documents by the Indian Ministry of Defence were due last week. The two projects are partially a restatement of earlier requirements that were never realized. They both require indigenous manufacture under Delhi’s “Make in India” requirements. The  MRH  will replace the Indian Navy’s Sea Kings, and is to be procured in two versions. One will perform anti-submarine warfare ( ASW ), anti-surface warfare ( AS uW), electronic intelligence-gathering, and search and rescue ( SAR ). The other will be for special operations, including anti-piracy missions, combat  SAR and humanitarian operations. In December 2014, the MoD chose the Sikorsky S-70B to meet an interim  ASW / AS uW requirement, but a ...

Delhi Airport FBO Terminal Hits Snag as Site Moves

by  Neelam Mathews  - October 23, 2017, 8:53 AM     New-build private aircraft terminal and hangars at Delhi International Airport have been delayed by two years, following a change in their location in the airport’s master plan. The planned site of the multi-FBO facility that was to be ready by 2018 is now being shifted, because it is near an air force base,  AIN  has learned. The revised location is awaiting the demolition of the India government-owned Centaur Hotel near Runway 29, where the FBO will be constructed, according to airport CEO I. Prabhakara Rao. Two consortiums were awarded 20-year deals in late 2015 for the design, construction, finance, development, operation, and maintenance for the FBOs. Concessionaires Bird Worldwide Flight Services-ExecuJet and Indamer-MJets are mandated to invest around $15 million each in the terminal, lounges, hangars, fuel storage and parking. Meanwhile, inte...
