SpiceJet to start regional operations

Posted by- Neelam Mathews Aug 12, 2011 Budget SpiceJet is starting its slightly delayed Q-400 operations on Sept 21. It is opening bookings for the first phase from Hyderabad to seven Tier II and Tier III destinations - Aurangabad, Bhopal, Indore, Mangalore, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Vijayawada. The all-inclusive inaugural fare on these routes begins from Rs. 1999, says a statement. The Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft accommodates 78 passengers.   SpiceJet had placed an order for 30 aircraft and says it is in the process of taking delivery of the first 4 aircraft during August. Hyderabad ’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) had been chosen as the first base for the regional operations. The south-central location of Hyderabad reduces flying time to any of the cities in the region making it the most suitable location to connect other cities especially in the South. News AWIN First Nov 15 , 2010 Neelam Mathews mathews.neelam@gmail.com Budget airline SpiceJet ’s majority shareholder in the company Kalanithi Maran, who also is chairman and promoter of Sun Network, has formally been inducted into the Board of SpiceJet as the director and chairman, effective Nov. 15. Maran currently holds a majority 38.66% stake through his aviation firm KAL Airways that recently acquired SpiceJet. The carrier is now in “fast forward” regarding its expansion plan that includes 30 Boeing 737s and 15 Bombardier regional Q400s that were recently ordered. “SpiceJet has been outperforming ... and is now perfectly poised for a sharp take-off.
