Tourism Australia talks to Indian carriers

Neelam Mathews Sept 9, 2011 Tourism Australia has held discussions with Indian carriers- Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines-  in Mumbai to start direct services to the country, said Andrew McEvoy, Managing Director at the recently held Pata Travel Mart. While the carriers showed interest, “they may not have the required aircraft available,” said McEvoy. Presently, there are no direct flights from India to Australia. Jet Airways has a code share with Qantas. All the capacity from India flies out of Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok presently. Tourism Australia says if new capacity is added, “we will help market it. Airports too, are said to be offering special incentives to carriers to help them fly to Australia. “Air access is essential. Not many swim to our country,” said McEvoy. Indian travelers are still heading to Queensland …..
