Neelam Mathews July 15, 2011 ITT Defense and Information Solutions will soon be known as ITT Exelis.   New York Stock Exchange will list the company under the symbol “XLS”. The name change will occur when Defense & Information Solutions operations becomes a separate company.  The company has said the spinoff and its separate listing on the New York Stock Exchange will occur before Dec. 31.  Headquartered in McLean, Va,   ITT Defense & Information Solutions, employs 1,800 people in Fort Wayne. The company under the new name will continue to design and produce products for communications, intelligence, surveillance, and information and technical services.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is pursuing an ITT system that would cover the entire subcontinent plus the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. As Indian skies become more crowded, AAI says ADS-B’s ability to precisely locate one aircraft’s position in relation to others will greatly enhance the Indian air traffic controllers’ management of takeoff, landing and transit operations. “We are actively considering this [option],” says V. Aerospace Diary & Defense Report April13,2010 BUSINESS NEW DELHHI — ITT Defense International is focusing its efforts on the Indian market with the opening of an office here April 9. “We are very excited,” said Lt. Gen. (ret.) David Melcher, president of ITT Defense & Information Solutions. “India is the largest [growing] market in the world. ITT can be a great partner in that.” While ITT is advocating its Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) system to India’s ministry of civil aviation, in the defense arena the company expects its night vision devices to attract interest. The Indian Army Aviation Corps has released a Request for Information for night-vision goggles capable of “operating in low ambient light conditions” for helicopter pilots. ITT partners for the project, if approved, would be government- owned Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) and an ordnance factory.
