The interception took place at 12.52hrs. The target missile, a modified version of Prithvi, mimicking the enemy’s ballistic missile, was launched from Launch Complex III, Chandipur. Long Range Radar and MFC Radar located far away could detect the Missile from take-off and tracked it through its entire path. The total trajectory of the incoming Missile was continuously estimated by the guidance computer and subsequently the AAD Missile was launched at an appropriate time to counter and kill the ballistic missile,” says MoD. The launch was carried out by the Strategic Force Command ( SFC ) as part of regular training exercise, says the MoD.   PRITHVI II has a range of   350 Km, is India’s earliest developed and inducted indigenous surface to surface strategic missiles. Guided by an Inertial Navigation System (INS) and controlled by the thrust vector control and aero-dynamic control systems, the missile reached the predefined target in the Bay of Bengal with a very high accuracy of better than 10 meters.
