Neelam Mathews Singapore signs up for space-based ADS-B data  Feb 24 2016  Aireon is to supply space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B)  data for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore  (CAAS) under a deal signed on on 18  February during the  Singapore  Airshow. The CAAS signed a 12-year contract to purchase the service,  beginning in 2018.  This is the first data services agreement for the Aireon service in the  Asia-Pacific region. In order to improve air traffic controller situational awareness, Aireon will provide data  for the entire  Singapore  Flight Information Region (FIR) by supplementing  existing surveillance sensors used by the CAAS. Over the next two years, CAAS will establish the necessary infrastructure to  integrate the Aireon service with legacy systems. Global Hawks for Korea (Video)

N eelam Mathews Dec 27, 2012 The U.S Department of Defense has made a proposal to Congress for the sale of  Northrop Grumman Corporation ’s Global Hawk surveillance drones to the government of South Korea   under the foreign military sale program. This is the  first order from Asia Pacific. The deal is worth around $1.2 billion. If the request is approved, Northrop will sell four RQ-4 Block 30 Global Hawk drones. Northrop will also supply equipment, parts, training and logistical support, which would include infrared and electro-optical sensors, imagery analysis systems and moving target indicators on board the Global Hawk Block-30 unmanned aircraft says Zacks. Despite An interest, Australia has not as yet placed an order for the drones.

Etihad on buying spree

Neelam Mathews July 26, 2012 Etihad Airways says it has welcomed the decision by the Australian Government to allow the airline to increase its equity stake in Virgin Australia Holdings to a maximum of 10 percent. Etihad Airways currently has a 4.99 percent stake in Virgin Australia, acquired earlier this year, and had applied to the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) to raise the level of its investment. The purchase was made following the development of a highly successful multi-tiered partnership. Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia currently operate 24 flights per week between Australia and Abu Dhabi offering Australian travellers and visitors to Australia greater choice and access to a combined network of more than 285 global destinations. The strategic partnership has already delivered significant revenues to each airline. It is expected that the equity stake in Virgin Australia will lead to further revenue generating opportunities.
