Neelam Mathews March 8, 2012 With the start of Exercise YUDH ABHYAS 2011-12 , a bilateral Indo- US military exercise at deserts of Mahajan(RAJASTHAN) involving mechanized forces, along with a platoon of Stryker Recon, Armored Personnel Carriers and support equipment with a contingent comprising another 170 personnel has started joint training since March 5.  The US troops are from the 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, US Army Pacific, Hawaii. . The joint exercise is designed to promote cooperation between the two militaries at the tactical level, while sharing training procedures and building joint operating skills, within the framework of UN peacekeeping operations. During two weeks exercise, troops from both nations will engage in joint planning for a variety of missions including live fire drills, cordon and search operations and search and rescue training.

Neelam Mathews March 5, 2012   Exercise YUDH ABHYAS 2011-12 started this morning at Mahajan, Rajasthan with an impressive opening ceremony that saw the unfurling of the National flags of both countries, says MoD. The US contingent was represented by Colonel Thomas J Roth, Commander 2nd Engineer Brigade, US Army.  Brigadier BS Dhanoa, his Indian counterpart welcomed the US soldiers, and in his inaugural remarks highlighted the common shared beliefs of democracy, freedom equality and justice that are precious to both nations. Exercise YUDH ABHYAS 2011-12, the latest in a series of Indo-US military exercises between mechanized forces, is scheduled to be conducted in northern Rajasthan in March 2012.   It is designed to improve bilateral cooperation between both armies and enhance their ability to operate side by side at the tactical level, within the framework of UN peacekeeping operations. This exercise will see troops of US 25 th Infantry Division, US Army Pacific, Hawaii train with India troops of South Western Command in well designed setting for peace support operations.   The participants will engage in a number of defined operational missions that include security of lines of communication, intelligence based peace enforcement operations and extrication / rescue operations, says a statement.
