Exclusive! India to buy more AEWs? Integration of systems not cake walk

Neelam Mathews Sept 6, 2012 India is looking to buy seven more AEWs from E mbraer Defense and Security if the present project for the first three procured is completed on time and seamlessly integrated, a senior analyst at a defense lab told Aerospace Diary. The first EMB 145 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) class of aircraft was delivered to the Government of India at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil recently. The delivery followed successful completion of ground and flight tests of the aircraft which met operational targets established by both Embraer and Center for Airborne Systems (CABS) of Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO). The aircraft will be delivered to the Indian Air Force after integration of missions systems of DRDO by CABS in India and inaugurated on Sept 19. Embraer Develops Complementary Platforms For Indian Systems

Programs Aerospace Daily & Defense Report Jun 02 , 2010 , p. 08 Neelam Mathews NEW DELHI — The joint development of an Airborne Early Warning system by Embraer and India’s Defense Research Development Organization for the Indian air force is on track. The first flight of the modified EMB-145 will take place in December or early next year, Orlando Jose Ferreira Neto, executive vice president for defense systems, told Aerospace DAILY. The first fuselage was joined for India’s early warning aircraft in March for the first of three EMB-145s to be fitted with the Indian-designed antenna. The Active Array Antenna Unit (AAAU), developed by DRDO’s Center for Airborne Systems, will then be integrated into the modified EMB-145 aircraft under the agreement, with certification to follow.
