Guest Opinion- IAF dues for unofficial tours of VVIPs

Jan 5,2012

This refers to Right to Information (RTI)  response where Indian Air Force (IAF) has revealed that outstanding towards unofficial tours of entitled ministers and state-governments using IAF planes is continuously on rise. It is surprising that IAF bill towards Karnataka government is now pending for many years when UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi used IAF plane deployed for use of the state-government. Earlier also case of recovery of IAF dues towards the then Prime Minister HD Devegowda is pending in the court. IAF is finding it difficult to recover its dues for its planes used by since-expired former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar. Even amount is long-pending towards former Union Cabinet Minister VC Shukla.
Since political personalities even though having been seated on responsible posts like that of Prime Minister do not easily settle government-dues, system should be to get deposit in advance for non-official tours carried out through IAF planes. Also persons having government-dues pending towards them must not be allowed to contest any elections till they clear all the dues. Even legal heirs of deceased defaulters of government-dues having benefitted from wealth inherited by them should also not be allowed to contest elections. Political parties whose Prime ministers defaulted for IAF dues should also be de-recognized for non-payment of dues.
