Neelam Mathews - IHS Jane's Airport Review

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and domestic airlines are working with the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) to implement flexible use of airspace (FUA).
IHS Jane's understands that the AAI has established a FUA Secretariat, which will be responsible for optimising Indian airspace in co-ordination with the MoD.
"FUA will be carried out in a dynamic, modular phased manner, not at one go," an AAI official said. Hitherto restricted military airspace would be made accessible as needed. "We want to maximise airspace jointly so that all user requirements are met," the official said, noting that "real-time co-operation would be required between civil and military users so utilisation of airspace could be done in an efficient manner".
