Officials at Bahrain-based Gulf Air say a passenger A-320 plane that skidded off the runway before dawn while  attempting to land at Cochin International Airport, located about 25 km (16 mi.) north of the major port city of Kochi, injuring several people, was carrying six crew and 137 passengers, including an infant.

Gulf Air says it  is coordinating with relevant authorities in investigating the cause of the incident.

“At this point, we cannot confirm the extent of the damage to the aircraft. Further investigations are ongoing,” an official says.
