Even as support for Russian equipment wanes in India, Agilent Technologies is in talks with local suppliers to change and adapt interface of instruments to supply to clients such as HAL.

“It is difficult to interpret Russian instruments. The business is presently worth $1 million to $1.5  (in this space) alone,” said Arun Dogra, Country Manager and VP- Sales, Marketing & Support, EMG- Agilent Technologies to Aerospace Diary.

Agilent Technologies is the world’s premier measurement company and a technology leader in chemical analysis, life sciences, electronics and communications. It launched seven new products and solutions for Aerospace & Defense (A&D) Electronics on July 1.

The products include Arbitrary Waveform Generator that creates realistic signal scenarios to test radars and the Peak Power Analyzer that enables the R&D engineers to get the high resolution they need to detect abnormalities
OEMs (like Cassidian) are looking at certification in compliance labs and we will build their solutions for testing…..We will be their solution and support partners,” says Dogra.
Agilient says it scores on support services such as Repair and Caliberation (including onsite). “Our Calliberation facility in India differentiates us from others on support,” says Dogra.
The company’s products are also used by ISRO from RF and microwave to optical equipment for satellite payload testing, sensor development –through the product life cycle.
Agilient turnover in India is $200 million and growing says Dogra. Being a 100% subsidiary prevents the company from directly offering offsets to OEMs. “We are however talking to Tier 1 companies of OEMs and are looking at partnerships,” he adds.
While manufacturing has yet to get on its feet in India, the company taps 60% of its global back-office business from India. “India’s strengths are its quality of people which we use to our advantage. The people have a sense of logic and an R&D mindset,” says Dogra.
The company has sponsored projects for IITs in Delhi and Mumbai in the past two years.
